The BHB Initiative at Upton/Druid Heights gives pregnant women the support they need to have a healthy pregnancy – whether this means finding prenatal care, adequate housing, protection from domestic violence, or a referral to substance abuse treatment.
BHB Resource Moms work one-on-one with pregnant women, facilitate Moms and Dads Clubs, and identify community members who are eager to champion BHB health issues. Click here for a schedule of Baby Basics Moms Clubs.
Antoine Dow is one such spokesperson. The business owner became an outspoken advocate for safe sleep as a result of participating in BHB's first "Barber Day" in 2011. He continues to educate young dads about parenting and safe sleep at his barber shop in Upton/Druid Heights.
BHB works with healthcare providers, home visiting programs, shelters, schools, faith communities, academic institutions, businesses, and non profits to build a supportive network for all families. In addition to 'Barber Day,' this community initiative holds many other events throughout the year to mobilize the community around infant mortality and family health issues.
