Community Advisory Board (CAB)

The CAB holds B'more for Healthy Babies (BHB) accountable to the people of Baltimore City. They inform BHB's work through their first-hand experience with systems and through their understanding of their communities' wants and needs. They are crucial to BHB's commitment to becoming an anti-racist initiative

They are vital to BHB's mission because they...

  • Have a say in quality of service delivery

  • Carry information from community to BHB and back

  • Communicate about and advocate for BHB's programs in their communities

  • Are in the position to raise questions

How It Works

The CAB meets on the last Wednesday of every month. The CAB promotes an egalitarian structure and values the experiences and contributions of all members. In order to streamline communications, they have elected a president, vice president, and secretary.

What It is Doing

In addition to their ongoing work and commitment to their mandate, the CAB's accomplishments to date include:

  • Provided feedback on how BHB will operate for the next 5 years

  • Created a space for real issues in communities to be heard, not a rubberstamp

  • Amended BHB's mission to be more inclusive

  • Created Community Doula Program

Their ongoing work includes:

  • Maintaining a consistent level of commitment to BHB and to challenging the status quo

  • Enhancing their abilities to educate and inform the community about available services

  • Developing skills, such as evaluation

Who is at the Table

The CAB is a diverse group, with diverse experiences and skills. They are leaders in their communities who are volunteers, educators, doulas, advocates, childcare professionals, public servants, and non-profit founders. They are united in their commitment to change and their love of Baltimore City.
